Kittie was the 5-year-old daughter of Dr. Henry Palmer, surgeon in charge of the U.S. Army General Hospital in York. Able to save many soldiers from death, Dr. Palmer was unable to save his daughter following a 3-week illness. “Papa, do cure my headache for it makes me feel cross, and I don’t like to be cross,” she said. The Palmers buried their daughter in Prospect Hill Cemetery, with the expectation of reburial when they returned to Janesville, Wisconsin.
